The wines of Marco Real from Navarre are primarily produced for the hotels of the NH chain. However, the quality and available capacity of the winery have made it possible for the wines to be purchased outside the company today.
An exclusive wine for the hotels
The Bodega Marco Real was originally created as a winery for the NH hotel chain by Antonio Catalán, who wanted to supply his hotels with his own high-quality wine. In keeping with the history of the company, Navarra (NH - Navarra Hoteles) was chosen as the location because of its excellent vineyards. The estate was equipped with modern buildings and technology right from the start of construction to facilitate quality control.
However, the capacity of the newly built production and storage facilities was so great that the company was soon looking for a way to sell the wine elsewhere. This is where Juan Ignacio Belasco joined the owners of the distilleries of La Navarra. Through his contacts and connections in the commercial sector, he enabled Marco Real to access the international market, so that the wines are now available outside the hotels.
Wines from Navarre
About 300 hectares of vineyards provide the grapes for the Marco Real wines, 200 of which are owned by the estate, the rest are by collaborating wineries. The currently cultivated grape varieties are:
- Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Garnacha and Graciano (red varieties)
- Viura, Chardonnay and Yellow Muscatel (white grape varieties)
About 90% of the harvest is red grapes and 10% white. The total annual harvest is about 2 million kg.
Every aspect is under control
According to the state of the art, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation are located in the cellar of Marco Real. The total capacity of 42000 hectolitres allows the production of many different wines at the same time. For example, the wines can be left to macerate longer for reservas. Finally, the barrel-aged wines are placed in one of 4300 American and French oak barriques made by renowned barrel makers such as Seguin Moreau or Berthomieu.
The barrels are constantly renewed, the maximum age is 6 years. The wines are then finally bottled in our own bottling plant and matured in the cellar, if it is a Riserva or Crianza. Alternatively, there is also a storehouse available, both this and the cellar have temperature control in order to store the wines in the best possible way.
