For Maria Bobal from Bodega De Moya, this is an expressive cuvée made from Bobal and Merlot grapes. Each red wine is a tribute to the women in the Larijssen family. This powerful cuvée is named after the older daughter Maria.
This Spanish wine presents itself full-bodied, intense and in a dark ruby red in the glass. The multi-faceted bouquet opens on the nose with fine spicy aromas, followed by vanilla, coconut, berries, dried fruits and jam. On the palate, this wine has a powerful, round character that blends perfectly with the aromas of ripe fruits and soft, well integrated tannins. The finish convinces with a wonderful length and a fine beery-spicy touch.
Vinification of De Moya Maria Bobal
This red wine is a cuvée of 90% Bobal and 10% Merlot from the Bodega De Moya's own vineyards in the mountains behind Valencia, not far from the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
The grapes grow at an altitude of 850 metres, on sandy and clay soils, poor in nutrients, with many pebbles, on vines that are between 15 and 40 years old. The yields are low and the grapes are harvested selectively by hand in 15 kg crates. After the harvest, the grapes are cooled to 4° for 24 hours. During the temperature-controlled maceration process, which lasts 26 to 34 days in steel tanks, the cap is manually lifted under the grapes. No pressed grapes are used. The ageing takes place over a period of 12 months in selected French oak barriques.
