Catalan flair in California
Marimar Torres, the highly talented sister of Miguel Torres, has been producing high-quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines in California since the mid-1980s. She has two vineyards there. Don Miguel, named after her father, covers about 33 hectares and is located in the comparatively cool Russian River Valley. Doña Margarita, named after her mother, is located in the Sonoma Coast Appellation.
The climate - the grape varieties
The extended ripening periods due to the cool climate of the Pacific Ocean allow the grapes to develop their full, intense aromas in complete tranquillity. The high planting density of the vines of almost 5,000 vines per hectare (about four times more than is usual in California) reduces yields and thus promotes a much higher concentration of aromas and affects the refinement, elegance and balance of the wines. The vines are planted on phylloxera-resistant vine rootstocks and are cultivated organically. Since 2006, Marimar has even started using biodynamic cultivation methods to cultivate ecologically healthy vineyards and produce grapes of higher quality. Marimar Estate vinifies exclusively:
- Pinot Noir
- Chardonnay
