In the glass, the Markgräflerland Sauvignon Blanc 1.5 l Magnum from the house of Martin Waßmer presents a brilliantly shimmering light yellow color. After the first swirl, this white wine from Martin Waßmer shows aromas of lime, gooseberry, nashi pear, white currant and grapefruit, complemented by juniper, garrigue and lovage. On the palate, Martin Waßmer's Markgräflerland Sauvignon Blanc 1.5 l Magnum starts pleasantly aromatic, fruit-driven and balanced. There are dry and really dry. This white wine belongs to the latter, because it was brought to the bottle with only 1.2 g residual sugar. Due to its concise fruit acid, the Markgräflerland Sauvignon Blanc 1.5 l Magnum is impressively fresh and lively on the palate.
Vinification of the Markgräflerland Sauvignon Blanc 1.5 l Magnum by Martin Waßmer
This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Sauvignon Blanc. Only the best grape material was brought in for this exceptionally elegant varietal wine from Martin Waßmer. The Markgräflerland Sauvignon Blanc 1.5 l Magnum is an Old World wine through and through, as this German wine breathes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. The ripening of the grapes for this Sauvignon Blanc wine is influenced to an undeniable extent by the climate of the growing region. In Baden, the grapes thrive in a rather cool climate, which is reflected, among other things, in particularly long and uniform grapes and a rather moderate must weight. At the time of optimal ripeness, the grapes for the Markgräflerland Sauvignon Blanc 1.5 l Magnum are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective full harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by aging on the fine lees for several months before the wine is finally bottled.
