The Montecillo Reserva of Bodegas Montecillo from La Rioja reveals a bright ruby color in the wine glass. Held at a slight angle, a transition of wine color toward garnet red is evident at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. In the glass, this red wine from Bodegas Montecillo presents aromas of blackcurrant, mulberry, blackberry and blueberry, complemented by vanilla, cinnamon and black tea. This dry red wine from Bodegas Montecillo is for wine drinkers who like their wine dry. The Montecillo Reserva already comes very close to this, it was vinified with just 1.7 grams of residual sugar. Due to its vital fruit acidity, the Montecillo Reserva is wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this mature red wine from the wine-growing region of La Rioja finally inspires with exceptional length. There are again hints of blackberry and black currant. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the limestone and clay dominated soils are added.

Vinification of the Bodegas Montecillo Montecillo Reserva

This balanced red wine from Spain is made from the Tempranillo grape variety. The grapes grow in optimal conditions in La Rioja. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into soils of clay and limestone. After the grape harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation follows in small wood at controlled temperatures. The vinification is followed by a few months of aging on the fine lees before the wine is finally bottled. The aging in barrel is followed by a long aging in bottle, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Food recommendation for the Bodegas Montecillo Montecillo Reserva

This Spanish wine is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompaniment to braised chicken in red wine, cabbage roulades or stuffed peppers.
