The Mount Riley winery is located in New Zealand's Wairau Valley, in the very north of the South Island. Mount Riley was named after a mountain in the nearby Richmond Mountains in 1992, the year it was founded. The family business is run by a team of father, daughter and son-in-law.
John, Amy & Matt = Mount Riley
John's daughter Amy and son-in-law Matt are the sixth generation of the Marlborough family. John's mother grew up here. He spent countless summers on his grandparents' farm in the Wairau Valley. They were happy times. As a boy, John thought Marlborough was paradise and he still thinks so today.
Wairau Valley - a special microclimate
The climate in the Mount Riley vineyards is pleasantly warm, characterised by cool nights and low rainfall in summer and autumn. These factors, together with the proximity of the sea and the mountains, ensure that the grapes ripen for a long time, making them particularly aromatic. Viticultural techniques here are both classic and modern, getting the best of both worlds to produce high quality wines.
Mount Riley cellar - capturing the essence
A whole range of grape varieties are grown at Mount Riley. In addition to the classic Sauvignon Blanc, there is also

- Pinot Noir
- Riesling
- Pinot Gris

Great wines are made at Mount Riley from grapes from a whole range of vineyards including Waihopai, Dillon, Litchfield, 17 Valley and Anderson.
