Nals Margreid - mystical name, clear lineage

Nals Margreid, located in Nals, less than 10 minutes by car from the even more famous Terlan, is a South Tyrolean winegrowers' cooperative with vineyards in more than 14 areas in Alto Adige. The vineyards of Nals Margreid extend from Nals in the north, via Bolzano and Merano, to Margreid in the south of the lowlands.

This means that the cooperative in the Adige Valley, which was formed in 1932 from the merger of the Nals and Margreid-Entiklar wineries founded in 1954 and has around 150 members, has a huge variety of different terroirs in the most diverse growing areas. Thanks to the expertise of the highly creative and very precise vinifying cellar master Harald Schraffl, the style of the wines of Nals Margreid has become more concise and independent from year to year.

Nals Margreid - on the outside, on the inside

The fact that Nals Margreid has reached the heights of the Bolzano Wine League so quickly is also due to the winery building, which was renovated according to functional and oenological criteria. It combines the historical inventory with the highest standards of modern winemaking. The vines of the winegrowers, which cover an area of around 150 hectares, are rooted in subsoil that is particularly suitable for them. As a rule, these are calcareous scree cones, sandy alluvial soils and glacial deposits in the form of moraine debris.

Only the Adige Valley is the limit

The 170 hectares of vineyards in Nals Margreid lie at altitudes ranging from 200 to 900 meters. They are protected in the north by the Alpine arch and are complemented by almost Mediterranean influences from the south. Here, nature provides around 300 days of sunshine a year and large temperature differences between day and night.
