More information about Napier Red Medallion - Napier Vineyards

The Napier Red Medallion from the wine-growing region of the Western Cape offers itself in the glass in dense purple. Held at a slight angle, the Bordeaux glass reveals a charming garnet red hue at the rims. When swirling the wine glass, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which is evident in distinct church windows at the rim of the glass. The first nose of Napier Red Medallion presents nuances of plums. The fruity parts of the bouquet are joined by more fruity-balsamic nuances.

This South African wine delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with 2.6 grams of residual sugar. As you would expect from a wine in the top wine segment, this South African naturally enchants with the finest balance despite all its dryness. Aroma does not necessarily need a lot of residual sugar. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully powerful. With its vital fruit acidity, the Napier Red Medallion is wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this very storable wine from the wine-growing region of the Western Cape finally inspires with exceptional length. Hints of plum are again evident.

Vinification of the Napier Vineyards Napier Red Medallion

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes are the starting point for Napier Vineyards' first-class and wonderfully powerful Napier Red Medallion cuvée. When perfectly ripe, the grapes for Napier Red Medallion are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective grape harvesters. After the hand harvest, the grapes are taken by the fastest route to the press house. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Then fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and barrique 225 l at controlled temperatures. After the end of fermentation, the Napier Red Medallion is allowed to further harmonize on the fine lees for a few months.

Food recommendation for the Napier Vineyards Napier Red Medallion

This South African is best enjoyed tempered at 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to leek tortilla, braised chicken in red wine or goose breast with ginger red cabbage and marjoram.
