More information
The barrel-aged Poggio Spino from the wine-growing region of Tuscany presents itself in a bright ruby red in the glass. Ideally poured into a red wine glass, this red wine from the Old World reveals wonderfully expressive aromas of blueberry, black cherry, plum and blackberry, rounded off by air-dried ham, vanilla and brown bread, which are contributed by the barrel ageing.
This Italian wine delights with its elegantly dry taste. It was bottled with just 2.2 grams of residual sugar. As you would expect from a wine at the upper end of the price range, this Italian wine naturally delights with the finest balance despite its dryness. Excellent taste does not necessarily require a lot of residual sugar. On the palate, this balanced red wine is characterized by an incredibly silky texture. The Poggio Spino presents itself impressively fresh and lively on the palate thanks to its concise fruit acidity. The finish of this red wine from the Tuscan wine-growing region, Chianti DOCG to be precise, is convincing with a remarkable aftertaste.
Vinification of the Cantina Gentili Poggio Spino
The basis for the balanced Poggio Spino from Tuscany are grapes from the Colorino and Sangiovese grape varieties. The grapes for this red wine from Italy are harvested exclusively by hand at optimum ripeness. After hand-picking, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small oak barrels at controlled temperatures. The fermentation is followed by 6 months of ageing in oak barriques.
