Private Bin Pinot Noir 2018 - Villa Maria
The Private Bin Pinot Noir from Villa Maria is an elegant, pure grape red wine from the New Zealand wine-growing region Marlborough on the south island.
In the glass this wine shines in a brilliant ruby red with cherry red highlights. The bouquet reveals the typical aromas of ripe heart cherries and lush red berry fruit (especially raspberry and red currant) - accompanied by fine hints of spices and wild herbs. Also on the palate this New Zealand red wine reflects the clear Pinot fruit and is supported by a soft tannin structure. The tannins give this wine a wonderful structure - but the red fruitiness remains in the foreground. The long finish is accompanied by fine spicy accents.
Vinification of Villa Maria Private Bin Pinot Noir
The Pinot Noir grapes for this red wine come from the vineyards of Awatere and Wairau Valley. The berries are harvested after parcel and vinified in the Villa Maria wine cellar, separated by parcel.
First the grapes are crushed cold and then fermented in a stainless steel tank at a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. Once the fermentation process is complete, the mash is pressed and the majority matures in French oak barriques. The smaller part is stored a little further in the steel tanks on the fine yeast and is then placed in the barriques. For 9 months this red wine matures in the barrels - thereby the biological acid degradation is completely run through. This wine is gently filtered and bottled.
