More information about Privatkeller - Weingut Robert Schlumberger

The Privatkeller from Weingut Robert Schlumberger in Lower Austria shows a dense, crimson color in the tilted glass. Holding the glass at a slight angle, a transition of color toward garnet red can be seen at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. When swirling the wine glass, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which is evident in strong church windows at the rim of the glass. The first nose of Privatkeller flatters with nuances of blackcurrants, blueberries and mulberries. The fruity parts of the bouquet are joined by notes of barrel aging such as cinnamon, black tea and sun-warmed rocks.

This wine delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with exceptionally little residual sugar. As you would expect from a wine in this price range, this Austrian naturally enchants with the finest balance despite all its dryness. Excellent taste does not necessarily need sugar. On the palate, the texture of this punchy red wine is wonderfully fleshy and dense. In the finish, this red wine from the wine-growing region of Lower Austria finally thrills with beautiful length. There are again hints of black currant and blueberry. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the soils dominated by limestone and clay join in.

Vinification of the Privatkeller from Weingut Robert Schlumberger

The basis for the powerful Privatkeller from Lower Austria are grapes from the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Lower Austria. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of clay and limestone. Privatkeller is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this Austrian breathes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. The fact that the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes thrive under the influence of a rather cool climate also has a considerable influence on the development of the vintage. This results, among other things, in particularly long and uniform grapes and rather moderate alcohol content in the wine. After harvesting, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks, small wood and large wood at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by aging for several months on the fine lees before the wine is finally drawn into bottles. The aging in oak barrels is followed by a long aging in bottle, which makes this red wine even more complex.
