Quinta das Arcas was founded in the 1980s by Esteves Monteiro, after beginning to restructure the family's agriculture in the previous decade, with a strong focus on land consolidation and the implementation of modern viticulture. In 1985 he founded the company and at that time launched the first bottles with the Arca Nova brand. During this time, the company paid special attention to the production area, following a path of quality improvement at an early stage and minimizing negative impacts on nature. In 2012, Quinta das Arcas is already launching its first organic wine with around 200 hectares of vines in the Vinho Verde region.

At the turn of the century, the company expanded 400 km south into the region (Alentejo), where entrepreneur Esteves Monteiro began a new project in a very characteristic and unique microclimate for the production of great wines. Today, the 120 hectares of vineyards surrounding the modern cellar produce the best wines from the Borba region. The wines around Herdade Penedo Gordo are already an exemplary reference from this region. With a total production of around 2,500,000 litres, Quinta das Arcas is now a company with a structured base for a successful future in the global wine market.

Quinta das Arcas location and products

Located in Sobrado, on the outskirts of the municipality of Valongo with Paredes, this Quinta houses the entire administrative structure of the company as well as the winery, storage and bottling of all Quinta das Arcas and Herdade Penedo Gordo products. The cheese dairy is also located here. The Portuguese produce their soft cheese here, with a bright white colour and a wonderfully creamy texture. It is the main cheese made with milk of the day through artisanal processes. With a curing time of about 20 to 30 days. In this quinta of about 50ha, its vineyards immediately stand out, with their vines of about 30 years old, here you harvest high quality grapes of the varieties under the influence of a very special microclimate:
