Quinta de Vargellas 2015 - Taylor's Port
The Quinta de Vargellas from Taylor's Port is only produced in particularly good vintages. This port is made from the grape varieties Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, Tinta Barocca, Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Amarela.
This port wine matures for two years in barriques and thus acquires its warm amber colour. The bouquet is fruity and fresh, reminiscent of black currants, spicy blackberries and juicy blueberries. This port is still very young and not yet fully developed, later aromas of cedar wood and plums are recognizable, which are accompanied by fine fragrant notes of rose petals, violets and a delicate spice. This aromatic play adds complexity to the Quinta de Vargellas.
On the palate, this port is strong with an excellent structure. The grippy and powerful tannin gives the finale a seductively long finish with juicy fresh and lush berry aromas that never get too much, but remain wonderfully straight and firm.
Vinification of Taylor's Port Quinta de Vargellas
Traditionally, the grapes for this port are harvested by hand at Taylor's and for the most part completely destemmed in the wine cellar. The grapes are crushed and fermented in large concrete tanks (Lagares). The grapes of this wine are still stomped with the feet, so that the variety of aromas, colour pigments and fullness of taste merge into the mash. As soon as half of the sugar is fermented, the fermentation process is stopped by the addition of high-proof distillate. This preserves the natural residual sweetness of this wine. Finally this Port wine matures for 2 years in large wooden barrels, until it is filled on the bottle.
Food recommendation for the Quinta de Vargellas Taylor's
We recommend this port wine with spicy blue cheese and chocolate dessert with cherries or - always suitable - with a good cigar.
