Raimat - Catalan top wines from Costers del Segre

More than 100 years of passion for winegrowing began with a pioneer. His name was Manuel Raventós. He succeeded in doing what others do not even dare to do because of the hopelessness, because he transformed a dry land in the Catalan hinterland into a sea of vines.

In a few years, Raventós planted extensive vineyards and founded the Raimat winery. This was made possible by an ingenious hydraulic irrigation system that could channel water into every vineyard. In the 1960s, another important decision was made at the Raimat winery by planting international classics in addition to the native grape varieties.

Even more important than international stars such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, however, was the sustainability of Raimat's vineyards in the Costers del Segre DO. In the interest of a healthy and living soil, minimal interference with the environment is ensured. This includes the elimination of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

As a pioneer of sustainable viticulture, Bodega Raimat has long been CICC (Catalan Integrated Production Authority) certified.

The naturalness of the Raimat vineyards is reflected in the wines, where it contributes its part to the intensity and fruitiness. Another reason for the ingenuity of the wines is the big difference between day and night temperatures, which allows the grapes to ripen more slowly and more aromatically.

The coat of arms of the Bodega Raimat shows a hand and a grape and comes from a mysterious stone that was found one of the vineyards. This stone became the name giver of the vineyard, because in the Catalan language the grape is called "Raïm" and "Mà". That's how the name "Raïmat" came about.
