Ramos Pinto - Tawny's first class

When the artist Adriano Ramos Pinto founded the company of the same name in 1880 in the centre of Porto in order to export port wine, a young, growing market quickly found his interest - Brazil. The business got off to a quick and successful start, and so he came to an agreement with his older brother, a photographer, on the division of core competencies within the company. Modern forms of distribution and quality assurance measures quickly put the Ramos Pinto brand at the forefront of the country's port wine distributors. Thanks to the company's backbone, Brazil as a sales market, the Old World quickly became aware of the strengthened wine from Porto.

From dealer to producer

Ramos Pinto has always been aware that the quality of the wine begins in the dark soil of the Douro Valley. The logical conclusion was the acquisition of own vineyards, which has been pursued consistently since the beginning of the 20th century. Since the Bom Retiro estate was acquired by Ramos Pinto in 1919, the vineyard has been extended to over 210 hectares. The successful company changed hands in 1990. From now on it belongs to the Louis-Roederer-Group, the founder Adriano Ramos Pinto's descendants are still responsible for the management.
