Red Blend Swartland WO 2017 - A.A. Badenhorst

The elegant Red Blend Swartland WO by A.A. Badenhorst shimmers in the glass with a bright crimson red. When swivelling the wine glass, one can perceive a perfect balance in this red wine, as it does not appear watery, syrupy or liqueur-like on the walls of the glass. On the nose, this A.A. Badenhorst red wine shows all kinds of violets, mulberries, morello cherries, perfumed rose and lilies. As if this wasn't already impressive, cocoa bean, oriental spices and cinnamon are added by the ageing in large wooden barrels.

This dry red wine from A.A. Badenhorst is ideal for wine drinkers who would like to have 0.0 grams of residual sugar in their wine. The Red Blend Swartland WO already comes quite close to this, as it was pressed with only 1.5 grams of residual sugar. On the tongue, this balanced red wine is characterized by an incredibly dense texture. The Red Blend Swartland WO is exceptionally fresh and lively on the palate due to its succinct fruit acidity. In the finish, this well storable red wine from the Coastal Region wine growing region finally inspires with considerable length. Once again there are hints of mulberry and lily. In the aftertaste mineral notes of the granite dominated soils are added.

Vinification of the A.A. Badenhorst Red Blend Swartland WO

Basis for the balanced Red Blend Swartland WO from Coastal Region are grapes from the grape varieties Cinsault, Garnacha, Syrah and Tinta Barroca. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Coastal Region. The vines here dig their roots deep into granite soils. When they are perfectly ripe, the grapes for the Red Blend Swartland WO are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of rough and unselective harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes quickly reach the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully ground. Fermentation then takes place in concrete and large wood at controlled temperatures. The vinification is followed by a maturation for 16 months in 1200-litre oak barrels.

Food recommendation for the Red Blend Swartland WO by A.A. Badenhorst

This South African is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompaniment to baked feta cheese packets, Thai cucumber salad or veal and onion casserole.
