Robert Parker is the quintessential wine evaluator. The Baltimore lawyer began writing his own little wine guide in 1975, at that time focusing on Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhône wines. In 1978, the first The Wine Advocate newsletter (yes, a printed sheet) appeared as an insert in catalogues of major wine merchants. The rest is history! Today, Parker stands for the 100-point system and for a taste in wine that was at times very much characterised by powerful wines, a lot of richness and concentration, but has since become very balanced thanks to the team of assessors.
