The Rondeur Appassimento from La Grange in Languedoc comes with dark ruby red and brick-red reflections in the glass. Here it immediately enchants with intense aromas of black currants, juicy raisins, rum cherries and other raisined, dried or pickled fruits. Garrigue aromas of rosemary, thyme and myrrh as well as mineral and stone notes round off the nose of the Rondeur Appassimento perfectly.
The La Grange Appassimento Rondeur starts on the palate with fine spices, delicate chocolate nuances and subtle sweetness. Plums, raspberries and blueberries come to mind, all wrapped in herbaceous garrigue spices. Everything is surrounded by full-bodied but soft tannins and a pleasantly harmonious, refreshing acidity. In the finish a wonderful, almost Amarone-like complexity, which makes the Rondeur resonate for a long time.
Vinification of La Grange Rondeur Appassimento
For its rondeur, La Grange uses grapes from the classic Languedoc vines Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. This legendary combination, also known as GSM for short, produces wonderfully complex, multi-layered aromas. So why not make it an appassimento, probably La Grange oenologist Thomas Raynaud thought. The process of drying the grapes to obtain more concentrated aromas is the absolute standard in Veneto, so why not in Languedoc? Thought - done! In the best La Grange, the grapes were left to hang on the vine until they began to dry out. After harvesting by hand and careful selection, fermentation followed. The cuvée was then assembled from the individual batches and placed in barrique barrels for ageing.
With Rondeur - the sundial - La Grange not only pays tribute to the sun, the grapevine's most important "partner", but also shows a grape on the label. The sun is almost doubly important for the Rondeur Appassimento, as it helps the grapes to grow and ensures that they dry out at the end and concentrate their aromas.
