Vinification of the Van Volxem Saar Riesling 1.5 l Magnum
This elegant white wine from Germany is vinified from the Riesling grape variety. In the Saar, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of slate. What is unusual about the origin of this white wine from Van Volxem is the fact that the grapes in Saar grow on stone terraces. This traditional form of vineyard design is unfortunately very costly and therefore rarely found. Saar Riesling 1.5 l Magnum is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this German wine breathes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. The fact that Riesling grapes thrive under the influence of a rather cool climate also has a very high influence on the maturity of the vintage. This manifests itself, among other things, in particularly long and even grapes and rather moderate alcohol content in the wine. At the time of optimal ripeness, the grapes for the Saar Riesling 1.5 l Magnum are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective grape harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes reach the winery by the fastest route. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. At the end of fermentation, the Saar Riesling 1.5 l Magnum is allowed to further harmonize on the fine lees for 7 months.
