More information
The light-footed Saar Riesling Van Volxem flows into the glass with a brilliant light yellow color. Poured into a white wine glass, this white wine from the Old World reveals wonderfully expressive aromas of nectarine, lime, apricot and jasmine, rounded off by Mediterranean herbs, garrigue and lovage contributed by barrel aging.
This wine delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with 7.2 grams of residual sugar. This is a real quality wine, which clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so this German wine naturally enchants with the finest balance despite all dryness. Taste does not necessarily need residual sugar. On the tongue, this light-footed white wine is characterized by an incredibly silky and dense texture. Due to its concise fruit acidity, the Saar Riesling presents itself impressively fresh and lively on the palate. The finish of this youthful white wine from the Saar wine-growing region, more precisely from Wiltingen, finally convinces with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the slate-dominated soils.
Vinification of the Van Volxem Saar Riesling
The basis for the elegant Saar Riesling from Saar are grapes from the Riesling grape variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Saar. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of slate. What is unusual about the origin of this white wine from Van Volxem is the fact that the grapes grow on stone terraces in Wiltingen (DE). However, this ancient way of vineyard management is very laborious and therefore rarely found anymore. When perfect physiological ripeness is ensured, the grapes for Saar Riesling are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective full harvesters. After the hand harvest, the grapes reach the press house by the fastest route. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Then fermentation takes place in large wood at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the Saar Riesling is aged for several months in oak barrels.
Food recommendation for the Van Volxem Saar Riesling
This German white wine is best enjoyed well chilled at 8 - 10°C. It is perfect as an accompaniment to vegetable stew with pesto, cabbage roulades or potato pan with salmon.
