More information

The organically produced Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé from Château Canon la Gaffelière shines into the glass with a dense purple color. Swiveling the wine glass, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, evident in distinct church windows at the rim of the glass. Poured into a Bordeaux glass, this Old World red wine reveals wonderfully expressive aromas of black currant and sour cherry, rounded out by licorice, chocolate and blueberry contributed by barrel aging.

The Château Canon la Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé presents itself to the connoisseur wonderfully dry. This red wine never appears coarse or meager, as one might expect from a wine icon wine segment. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully creamy. The finish of this very ripening red wine from the wine-growing region of Bordeaux, more precisely from Saint-Emilion, finally impresses with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the soils dominated by clay and limestone.

Vinification of Château Canon la Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

The starting point for Château Canon la Gaffelière's premium and wonderfully powerful Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé cuvée is Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Bordeaux. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of clay and limestone. Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this Frenchman exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. The grapes for this red wine from France, after ensuring optimal ripeness, are harvested exclusively by hand. After the hand harvest, the grapes quickly reach the winery. Here they are selected and carefully ground. This is followed by fermentation in small wood at controlled temperatures. After the completion of fermentation, the organically produced Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is aged for another 16 months in oak barriques.

Food recommendation for Château Canon la Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

This French red wine is best enjoyed tempered at 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompaniment to duck breast with snow peas, braised chicken in red wine or leek soup.
