In the glass, the Salanques Priorat from Mas Doix offers a dense purple color. If you give it some air in the wine glass by swirling, this red wine reveals a high density and fullness, which shows in church windows at the edge of the glass. This Spanish cuvée reveals wonderfully expressive notes of gooseberry, red currant and raspberry in the glass. These are joined by hints of mineral.
This red from Mas Doix is perfect for all wine lovers who like it dry. At the same time, however, it never shows itself meager or brittle, as one would naturally expect from a wine icon wine segment. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully silky. Due to the balanced fruit acidity, the Salanques Priorat flatters with a soft mouthfeel without lacking freshness. In the finish, this youthful wine from the wine-growing region of Catalonia finally inspires with considerable length. Again, hints of raspberry and red currant appear.
Vinification of the Mas Doix Salanques Priorat
The starting point for the first-class and wonderfully powerful cuvée Salanques Priorat from Mas Doix are Carignan, Grenache and Syrah grapes. Salanques Priorat is an Old World wine through and through, as this Spaniard breathes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. At the time of optimal ripeness, the grapes for Salanques Priorat are harvested exclusively by hand without the aid of crude and less selective machinery. After the harvest, the grapes reach the press house by the fastest route. Here they are sorted and carefully ground. Then fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and small wood at controlled temperatures. Once fermentation is complete, the Salanques Priorat can continue to harmonize on the fine lees for 14 months.
Food recommendation for the Salanques Priorat from Mas Doix
This Spaniard is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to goose breast with ginger red cabbage and marjoram, duck breast with sugar snap peas or boeuf bourguignon.
