Family and history in Piedmont

In the first years after the war, the Santero brothers Leopoldo, Renzo and Adelio followed in the footsteps of their father, who had already started producing wine in a small farm in Calosso, and carried on his business and his vision. Buying the Belbo cellar in Santo Stefano in 1958, they opened the current winery amid countless uncertainties with only a fifth of the money needed.

The place, the location of the wine

The winery is located in the heart of the "Langa" area in Santo Stefano Belbo, the birthplace of the poet Cesare Pavese, in the province of Cuneo. The large and modern cellar covers an area of 25,000 square metres with a total storage capacity of 120,000 hectolitres, 80,000 of which are air-conditioned.

 The Langhe and Monferrato, declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, are the area of origin of the white muscatel grapes used to produce their base wines for Asti DOCG and Moscato d'Asti DOCG. The total area planted with white Muscat vines is 9,700 hectares and over 4,000 farms are involved in the production and extraction of the grapes.

The characteristics of the region and the craftsmanship give your wines Asti and Moscato d'Asti the special aroma and delicate sweetness that make them unique in the world. The factory processes not only your own grapes grown in the 5 Santero vineyards, but also grapes purchased from more than three hundred local wine producers.
