More information about Schiefersteil Riesling trocken - Markus Molitor

Markus Molitor's Schiefersteil Riesling from the Mosel offers a brilliant, light yellow color in the glass. This single-varietal German wine flatters wonderfully expressive notes of quince, pears, nashi pear and apples in the glass. It is joined by hints of lovage, brittle and roasted almond.

This wine delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with exceptionally little residual sugar. As you would expect from a wine in the high quality wine range, this German wine naturally enraptures with the finest balance despite all its dryness. Excellent taste does not necessarily need a lot of residual sugar. In the finish, this youthful white wine from the wine-growing region of the Moselle finally delights with good length. Once again, hints of pear and quince appear. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the slate-dominated soils join in.

Vinification of the Markus Molitor Schiefersteil Riesling

The basis for the elegant Schiefersteil Riesling from the Mosel are grapes from the Riesling grape variety. In the Moselle, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of slate. What is unusual about the origin of this top wine from Markus Molitor is the fact that the grapes grow in the Moselle on stone terraces. However, this traditional way of vineyard management is very costly and time-consuming and therefore rarely found anymore. When perfectly ripe, the grapes for Schiefersteil Riesling are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective grape harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes are taken to the press house by the fastest route. Here they are selected and carefully broken up. Then fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and large wood at controlled temperatures. After its end, the Schiefersteil Riesling is aged for several more months in oak barrels.

Food recommendation for the Markus Molitor Schiefersteil Riesling

Enjoy this white wine from Germany ideally well chilled at 8 - 10°C as an accompanying wine to coconut-lime fish curry, vegetable salad with beetroot or roasted trout with ginger pear.
