Teldeschi Zinfandel 2016 - Ravenswood
The Teldeschi Zinfandel from Ravenswood is an excellent American red wine cuvée made from the grape varieties Zinfandel (80%), Carignan (12%) and Petite Sirah (8%).
This wine has a very deep purple red colour with dark red highlights in the glass. Powerful aromas of juicy black cherries, ripe dark berries (blackberry and blueberry) and some cherry liqueur spoil the nose. In addition there are notes of caramel, coffee and some baked cocoa.
On the palate, too, the sweet fruit aroma of the nose presents itself with subtle notes of smoke and vanilla. The tannins are noticeably dense and yet velvety mature. The beautiful acidity harmonises wonderfully with the pleasantly decent sweetness. The finale is very lively and of beautiful length with a fruity finish.
Vinification of Ravenswood Zinfandel Teldeschi
The grapes of the Teldeschi Zinfandel come from the Teldeschi vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. The combination of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignan is a classic blend for older vines.
All grapes for this American red wine are harvested by hand and immediately brought to the Ravenswood cellar. The grapes are first crushed and then fermented in open fermenters. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine remains on the skins for 10 to 15 days before being carefully drawn off. This red wine then matures for 19 months in French oak barrels (30% new wood). Finally, this wine rests on the bottle before it leaves the Ravenswood estate.
