The Superior range of A. Diehl are the top of the estate's collection. Andreas Diehl selects the best barrels each year to demonstrate the perfect interaction of grape and barrel.
The barrel-aged Superior Sauvignon Blanc from the Pfalz winegrowing region shows a bright light yellow in the glass. Swiveling the glass, one can perceive a perfect balance in this white wine, as it stands out on the glass walls neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like. To the nose, this A. Diehl white wine shows all sorts of mangoes, star fruit, papayas, physalis and pineapple. As if that wasn't already impressive, the aging in large wooden barrels adds other aromas like gingerbread spice, black tea and cocoa bean.
This dry white wine from A. Diehl is for wine lovers who like it absolutely dry. The Superior Sauvignon Blanc already comes very close to this, as it was pressed with just 1.8 grams of residual sugar. On the tongue, this balanced white wine is characterized by an incredibly creamy and silky texture. Due to its present fruit acid, the Superior Sauvignon Blanc presents itself impressively fresh and lively on the palate. The finale of this white wine from the wine-growing region of Palatinate finally thrills with good reverberation.
Vinification of the A. Diehl Superior Sauvignon Blanc
The basis for the balanced Superior Sauvignon Blanc from Palatinate are grapes from the Sauvignon Blanc grape variety. Superior Sauvignon Blanc is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this German wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. After the hand harvest, the grapes immediately reach the winery. Here they are selected and carefully broken up. This is followed by fermentation in large wood at controlled temperatures. After the completion of fermentation, the Superior Sauvignon Blanc is aged for another 12 months in oak barrels.
Food recommendation for the Superior Sauvignon Blanc from A. Diehl
