More information
In the glass, the Taurasi from Villa Raiano has a bright purple-red color. With a little sideways movement, the wine glass reveals a charming garnet-red hue at the edges. When swirling the glass, you can perceive a perfect balance in this red wine, as it is neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. This Villa Raiano red wine presents the nose with all kinds of blueberries, blackberries, mulberries and blackcurrants. As if that wasn't already impressive, gingerbread spice, cinnamon and beech smoke are also added due to the ageing in large wooden barrels.
The Villa Raiano Taurasi is wonderfully dry. This red wine is never coarse or austere, as is appropriate for a wine of this reputation. The finish of this mature red wine from the Campania wine-growing region is convincing with a beautiful aftertaste.
Vinification of the Taurasi from Villa Raiano
This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Aglianico. Only the best grapes were harvested for this exceptionally balanced single-varietal wine from Villa Raiano. The Taurasi is an Old World wine through and through, as this Italian wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underlines the success of wines from the Old World. The ripening of the grapes for this Aglianico wine is influenced to a very large extent by the climate of the growing region. In Campania, the grapes thrive in a warm climate, which is reflected, among other things, in particularly well-ripened grapes and a rather high must weight. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in large oak barrels at controlled temperatures. Once fermentation is complete, the Taurasi is matured for a further 12 months in French oak barrels.
