Red winedryItalyTuscany (IT)Brunello di Montalcino DOCG (IT)
The winery Tenuta IlPoggione was founded at the end of the 19th century.
The winery Tenuta Il Poggione - A continued vision
Lavinio Franceschi, a landowner from Florence, was intrigued by the tales of a shepherd who was driving his sheep through the Montalcino area, and decided to visit the region. He fell in love with the landscape and the people, so he decided to buy land and start a farm. The estate was one of the first to market BrunellodiMontalcino in the early years of the 20th century, and one of the founding members of the ConsorziodelBrunellodiMontalcino.
Quality is born in the vineyard at Tenuta Il Poggione
After more than a century, his heirs still refer to the vision and work of LavinioFranceschi. Today, Leopoldo and Livia run the winery and continue to develop it with the same unchanging passion. They continue to develop the winery with the same unwavering passion, respecting the knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation, continuing the oenological traditions and using the most innovative and modern techniques available today. The careful care of the vineyards is the core philosophy of the winery: the secret of great red wines lies precisely in the careful work in the vineyard.
Manual work in the vineyard and in the cellar
The Tenuta Il Poggione vineyard extends over about 530 hectares. 140 hectares are vineyards, 50 hectares are olive groves and the rest is used agriculturally, for example as forest and as pasture for the animals. In the spirit of sustainable management, the estate has always cultivated different crops side by side, as well as keeping the use of agents to support the health of the plants to an absolute minimum. Some time ago, the winery was equipped with solar panels on the roof. The work is almost entirely manual, both in the vineyards and in the cellar. By thinning out the grapes on the vines, the health of the grapes and the nutrient requirements of the soil are constantly monitored, so that a good product can be produced even in difficult years.
