Vin or vino? 

More than 40 years ago Conti Gigi and Hugues Bernard de la Gatinais founded the Tenuta Rapitalà. Count Hugues Bernard de la Gatinais is originally from the Loire and belongs to a prestigious noble family. But stop! A Frenchman of the noble family who moves to Sicily and builds up a winery? Extraordinary! Two simple and beautiful reasons led to this: The love for the Sicilian countess and the conviction to produce great wines in the excellent climatic conditions of Sicily drove the Frenchman to the south. Chapeau!

What does Rapitalá mean?

The Tenuta Rapitalà winery extends over no less than 225 hectares in the area that slopes down from Camporeale to Alcamo in the northwest of Sicily, on gentle hills at an altitude of about 300 to 600 meters. The soil composition of clay and sand is ideal and makes this area the ideal place for growing the finest vines. Rapitalà comes from the Arabian "Rabidh-Allah" - the "River of Allah". The river that flows between the vineyards is proof that this landscape has been cultivated since ancient times. Over the centuries, the farmers have worked out the current form and identity of the winery over generations. Of course, Tenuta Rapitalá has always been updated to the latest standards, and so today the winemakers use the most innovative pressing, cooling, wine and bottling techniques.

Awarded and renowned

The fusion of French and Sicilian know-how truly reaches its peak at Tenuta Rapitalà. The focus is always on quality rather than quantity and only the highest quality grapes from our own vineyards are used. Thus, year after year, Tenuta Rapitalà succeeds in producing award-winning wines, many of which have won many prizes, and today is one of the most renowned, internationally renowned estates in Sicily. Besides the red wines, such as the Nero d'Avola series, the white wines are particularly exciting, such as the Grillo, which is well known and popular in Sicily, or the grandiose Chardonnay Grand Cru.
