Tenuta Tignanello

Tenuta Tignanello - expression of the Antinori philosophy

The Tenuta Tignanello winery is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, nestled between rolling hills and the Greve and Pesa rivers, just 30 km from Florence. 319 hectares, including 127 hectares of vineyards, including the Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, which produce two unique terroir wines of Marchesi Antinori.

Tenuta Tignanello and Marchesi Antinori

Since 1850 the estate with its Renaissance villa has belonged to the Antinori family. Historical documents show that in the Middle Ages the estate belonged to the Buondelmonti family, as did large parts of the Valle della Pesa. In the 17th century it belonged to a branch of the Medici and finally in the middle of the 19th century it belonged to the Antinori. At that time, the town of Tignanello was already renowned as one of the highest and most picturesque in the whole area.

Terroir and Innovation in the Tenuta Tignanello

The vineyards are located at 350 to 400 m.a.s.l., the skeleton-rich marine marl soils of Pliocene origin are rich in Albarese and Galestro, the local names for limestone and slate. The microclimate in this area is characterised by remarkable thermal excursions between day and night, giving the grapes unique characteristics. There are 127 hectares land, two plots are the renowned Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, and many different small plots, where autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety and the international Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape varieties, which become absolute terroir grape varieties here are cultivated as well as plots of Malvasia and Trebbiano for Vinsanto production plus 37 hectares of olive groves.

Wine Laboratory Tenuta Tignanello

In the 70's, at Tenuta Tignanello were introduced new viticultural techniques and new grape varieties, planting density, pruning and selection of clones, but also innovations in the maturing process, small barrels, a kind of "wine laboratory" in search of even more expressiveness, elegance, concentration and terroir.

World-renowned terroir wines from Tenuta Tignanello

The winery produces three red wines, which are rightly among the most important in Italian wine history and enjoy an international reputation, the best expression of the terroir, each unique in its own way. The Vinsanto of the Tenute Marchese Antinori is also matured in the Tenuta Tignanello and a grappa of the same name is distilled from the marc of the Tignanello.
