    The Dead Arm Shiraz 2016 - d'Arenberg

    The Dead Arm Shiraz from d'Arenberg is a seductive, multi-layered and complex red wine from the Australian McLaren Vale wine-growing region in South Australia.

    The colour of this wine is reminiscent of the concentrated red of bricks. A scent of dark fruits and hearty hints emanate from this red wine, reminiscent of liquorice and blackberry, combined with a hint of charcoal. This is followed by complex notes of iodine and mineral nuances. This Australian red wine is powerful and very well structured on the palate. An abundance of sweet fruit sensations of plums and mulberries is perceptible, which makes this red wine not fat but rather compact and concentrated. Exotic and mineral nuances convey a multi-layered mouthfeel. All in all a powerful and very refined Shiraz with balance, complexity and persistence.

    Vinification of Shiraz The Dead Arm d'Arenberg

    As soon as the Shiraz grapes arrive in the d'Arenberg wine cellar, the grapes are gently crushed in small batches and fed into open fermenters. Two thirds of this wine is mashed with the feet during the fermentation. This wine is then pressed into a basket and placed in French (new and used) and American (old) oak barrels to complete the fermentation. This wine is aged in the barrels on the yeast.

    The name The Dead Arm

    The name Dead Arm comes from the wood disease eutypiosis, in which one half or one arm of the vine slowly dies, making it appear brittle and lifeless. The other half of the vine, on the other hand, gains enormous intensity due to the lower total vine yield.
