More information about The Footbolt Shiraz - d'Arenberg

The The Footbolt Shiraz from d'Arenberg in the McLaren Vale wine region of South Australia is a varietal, rich and classic red wine.

In the glass, this wine glows with a beautiful deep red-purple color. The crisp, fragrant nose initially indulges with red fruits and a strong peppery spice nuance. Gradually darker and more flavors of mulberry, black plum, soot and baking spice unfold. On the palate, this Australian red is very appealing with lively acidity and elegant fruit weight. A generous helping of mineral fruit tannins adds structure and length to the wine. After some aging, this red wine develops more generosity and complexity on the palate. The acidity and tannin structure guarantee that d'Arenberg The Footbolt will remain lively and long.

Vinification of the Shiraz d'Arenberg The Footbolt

The Shiraz grapes are carefully harvested and immediately brought to the d'Arenberg winery. There, the grapes are gently crushed in small batches and then sent to open fermenters. Two-thirds of the way through fermentation, the grapes are crushed with feet. This red wine is then basket pressed and placed in new and used French oak barrels to complete fermentation. In the barrel, this wine continues to ferment on its lees.

Food Recommendation for the d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz

Serve this dry red wine from Australia with BBQ, sweet marinated ostrich fillet, and medium-ripe and mild cheddar.

The name The Footbolt

This wine bears the name of a racehorse that was the pride and joy of successful racehorse owner and winery founder Joseph Osborn. With a heavy heart, Osborn parted with his horses in 1912 to buy what is now the d'Arenberg winery.
