More information about The Love Grass Shiraz - d'Arenberg
The Love Grass Shiraz from d'Arenberg is a varietally pure, complex and rich red wine from the Australian wine-growing region of McLaren Vale in South Australia.
In a dense purple red with garnet reflections, this wine presents itself in the glass. The nose is initially dominated by Shiraz notes of sweet, purple plums and strong, dark licorice. Gradually, notes of fragrant violets and musk reveal themselves - followed by exotic aromas of warm Indian spices. On the palate, the complexity of this red wine emerges provocatively. Nuances of cooked rhubarb combine sweetness and lively acidity at the same time. Sweet fruits are balanced by savory yet restrained notes reminiscent of black olives and subtle smoke. The real standout of this Australian red, however, is the fusion of firm, chalky tannins with a metallic acidity and a long mineral finish.
Vinification of the d'Arenberg The Love Grass
Once the Shiraz grapes arrive at d'Arenberg's winery, they are gently crushed in small batches into open fermenters. Two-thirds of the way through fermentation, the grapes are foot-stomped. This red wine is then basket pressed and transferred to French oak barrels. In these wooden barrels this red wine rounds harmoniously for 18 months.
Food recommendation for the The Love Grass Shiraz by d'Arenberg
Serve this dry red wine from Australia with juicy Angus beef steak and thyme-crusted lamb shank with potato gratin.
The name The Love Grass
The name of the wine was inspired by the Love Grass, which grows wild in the vineyards surrounding the winery. During the harvest, the grass's sticky, long-stemmed flowers attach themselves to the socks of the vineyard workers.
