More information about The Twentyeight Road Mourvèdre - d'Arenberg

The Twentyeight Road Mourvèdre from d'Arenberg is a generous, varietally pure and balanced red wine from the McLaren Vale wine region of South Australia.

In the glass, this wine shimmers a sparkling ruby red with cherry red highlights. The nose is filled with fruity and exotic aromas reminiscent of blood orange, red currant, iodine, oregano and rose water. With exposure to air, this Australian red wine increases in complexity and develops hints of game, smoked meat and new leather. The palate relies on a medium body of pleasing restraint, so again the focus is on the flavors. The slightly cedary tannins further fill the palate and provide a pleasantly long finish.

Vinification of the Mourvèdre Twentyeight Road d'Arenberg

After the Mourvedre grapes are harvested, they are immediately taken to the d'Arenberg winery. There, the berries are gently crushed in small batches and sent to open fermenters. Two-thirds are tamped down with the feet during fermentation. The mash is then pressed through a basket and transferred to old French oak barrels for further fermentation. This red wine is aged on its lees during barrel fermentation.

Recommended food for the d'Arenberg The Twentyeight Road

Serve this dry red wine from Australia with saucisson (raw sausage) of wild duck and roast beef on red cabbage.

The name The Twentyeight Road

The title of the wine is based on the dirt road that runs parallel to the vineyard with the Mourvèd vines.
