More information
The barrel-aged Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese from the Mosel winegrowing region appears in the glass in brilliantly shimmering light yellow. Swiveling the wine glass, this single-varietal German wine reveals wonderfully expressive notes of quince, apples, nashi pear and pears in the glass. These are joined by hints of brittle, lovage and juniper.
The Markus Molitor Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese presents itself pleasantly sweet to the wine lover. This white wine never shows itself coarse or meager, but round and smooth.
Vinification of the Markus Molitor Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese
This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Riesling. For this exceptionally elegant single-varietal wine from Markus Molitor, only first-class grapes were harvested. The grapes grow under optimal conditions on the Mosel. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of slate. What is unusual about the production of this top wine from Markus Molitor is the fact that the grapes grow on stone terraces in Mosel. However, this time-honored method of vineyard design is very elaborate and therefore rarely found anymore. Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese is an Old World wine through and through, as this German wine breathes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. The ripening of the grapes for this Riesling wine is influenced to an undeniable degree by the climate of the growing region. In Mosel, the grapes thrive in a rather cool climate, which is reflected, among other things, in particularly long and uniform grapes and a rather moderate must weight. At the time of optimal ripeness, the grapes for Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective machines. After the harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the winery. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in large wood at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by aging for several months in oak barrels.
Food recommendation for the Markus Molitor Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese
This German wine is best enjoyed well chilled at 8 - 10°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to vegetable salad with beetroot, roasted trout with ginger pear or omelet with salmon and fennel.
