More information about The Velvet Devil Merlot - Charles Smith Wines

The Merlot Velvet Devil Columbia Valley of Charles Smith Wines shows in the glass in a dark purple and immediately unfolds wonderful aromas of cherries. Accompanying these aromas are spicy notes of chocolate and cedar, which bring complexity to this red wine.

This red wine cuvée harmonizes perfectly with its juicy fruit and soft tannin structure, the Velvet Devil's finish is elegant.

Vinification of the Merlot Velvet Devil

At an altitude of 200 to 400 meters, the Upland, Sundance, Art Den Hoed and Roza Hills vineyards are where the grapes for this fine Merlot Velvet Devil Columbia Valley from Charles Smith Wines come from. In the Snipes Mountains, in the middle of the Yakima Valley, lies Upland Vineyard. The most diverse soils in the entire state are found there. At Sundance Vineyard, which was first planted in 1997, mixed soils with high limestone content predominate. In Art Den Hoed and Roza Hills, the soils are dominated by basalt and limestone.

The Merlot Velvet Devil is not a pure Merlot, but Cabernet Sauvignon is added. After the wine was blended and fermented in stainless steel tanks, 30% was aged in new French wooden barrels.

Food recommendation for the Charles Smith Velvet Devil

Enjoy this dry red wine with a hearty lentil stew, light fish dishes or with roasted pork tenderloin.
