Direct and clear, without kitsch and frills, that is what characterises the wines from WeingutDr. Koehler. Even the bottle labels, with their numbers and clear shapes, unmistakably represent this philosophy, that there is no beating around the bush here.
Dr. Koehler Winery - Tradition since 1898
The Dr. Koehler Winery in Bechtheim has existed since 1898. In 2006, the Dreißigacker family took over the 26 hectares of vineyards and the Wilhelmine manor house in the adjacent park. Under the management of Christian Dreißigacker, a winegrower from the Rhine-Hesse region, high-quality wines full of character are cultivated, while at the same time maintaining traditional values.
The vineyards of Dr. Koehler
The quality of the wine begins in the vineyard. The land is farmed exclusively organically, the soil is planted with vegetation to keep it healthy and thus provide the vines with an ideal basis for balanced ripening. The Dr. Koehler winery grows the following grape varieties:
Sauvignon Blanc
Pinot Gris
Pinot Blanc
Pinot Noir
Riesling
Chardonnay
Cabernet Sauvignon
Merlot
The soil is fertilised with horse manure and only organic preparations are used for plant protection. This helps to maintain healthy soil, which - combined with plenty of sunshine - provides ideal conditions for growing Koehler wines.
In the cellar of Dr. Koehler
The cellar is all about peace and quiet and the time the wine gets to mature in order to develop its character, which is typical for the respective grape variety. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, some are then matured in barrels.
The number on the bottle label stands for the parcel from which the grapes originate, as Dr. Koehler grows almost exclusively single-varietal grapes.
