The Hexamer Winery is located in Meddersheim, a municipality in the district of Bad Kreuznach, in Rhineland-Palatinate and the wine-growing region of Nahe.
Winery Harald Hexamer
The Rheingrafenberg near Meddersheim not only offers the winery Harald Hexamer fertile soil for wonderfully complex Riesling wines, but also demands a lot from the winemaker. Nature gives, but it is also unruly. Frosty nights, windy days and wallowing wild boars are survived, the selective hand harvest is laborious - finally it is all worth it. Because what remains is German quality wine from the Nahe growing region.
Grape varieties at the winery Harald Hexamer
The Hexamer winery in Meddersheim follows the philosophy: Quality is the highest maxim! On its 18 hectares, the Hexamer winery mainly grows Riesling, other important grape varieties are Burgundy grapes such as:
- Pinot nero
- Pinot Blanc
- Pinot Gris
- Pinot nero precoce
as well as Müller-Thurgau.
The assortment is still extended by small portions of Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are mostly vinified dry. However, the grapes develop so well in the vineyard that Trockenbeerenauslese and even ice wine can be vinified. Passion for the winemaker's craft on the sites spoiled by the sun and tormented by frost can be felt here in every step - and especially in the wine.
Top wines from top vineyards
The wines show varietal character, are a product of the terroir. The wine is created in the vineyard, therefore the potential of the wine lies dormant in the sites. The Rheingrafenberg is characterized by red sandstone, which reveals weathered and skeletal ideal conditions especially for Riesling. The days are warm, the nights moderately cool, so that the grapes ripen slowly.
For generations, viticulture has been carried out with the highest standards of sustainability. The grapes are fertilized with straw, manure and green cuttings, and the vines are heated with wood from the estate's own forest. Large wooden barrels for wine production are also made from Meddersheim oak wood. Even the bottles are designed to use the least amount of energy during production and transport.
The finished wine completes the circle at the Harald Hexamer winery. Natural aromas of gooseberries, citrus fruits and the smoky note from the porphyry bring the vineyards to life. And thanks to the special climate, single-varietal wines with good storage potential are produced, so that the Rheingrafenberg still presents itself magnificently even after years in the bottle.
