Juliusspital Winery - Viniculture for a good cause

In 1576, Prince-Bishop Julius Echter founded the Juliusspital charitable foundation in Würzburg. For more than 440 years now, the Juliusspital has been financing its social projects from the proceeds of its vineyard. With a farm area of 180 hectares and an annual production of approx. 1 million bottles, the vineyard on the Main is the second largest in Germany. It has vineyards in the most prestigious locations of Franconia, for example on the Würzburger Stein, on the Iphöfer Julius- Echter- Berg, the Volkacher Karthäuser, the Eschendorfer Lump, the Rödelseer Küchenmeister and the Randerackerer Pfülben. Grape varieties such as Silvaner, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Noir are cultivated on shell limestone floors, red sandstone and gypsum kupper. The estate also produces white Burgundy varieties and specialities such as Muskateller and Traminer from Franconia.
