Weingut Katrin Wind

The story of Katrin Wind reads like a Hollywood success story. A you-can-do-anything-if-you-really-want-movie that starts with a daughter of a winegrower, who puts her first own wine on the market at 19. The winegrowing estate Wind, rather a hobby of Katrin's father, is enthusiastically transformed by the young woman into a garage winery that is trimmed to quality and demand. Katrin Winds parents are completely behind her daughter and so the winegrowing estate Wind is renamed to Katrin Wind.

With now 4 hectares and 8 different wines, Katrin Wind took it easy and didn't get into the Palatinate winemill from A for Auxerrois to Z for Zweigelt. Instead, it has focused on its vines and the limestone rich location of Kalmit. In addition, the family also has plots in the Birkweiler Kastanienbusch, where grapes of the top VDP winemakers Dr. Wehrheim and Ökonomierat Rebholz grow.

In addition to good locations, however, it is much more the training and attitude of Katrin Wind that ensures the quality of the wines. The subsidiary from Arzheim studied in Geisenheim, while at the same time working for VDP-winegrower Philipp Kuhn, from whom there is always something to learn.

Katrin Wind also consistently follows her own paths in the winemaking process. The grapes, of course hand-picked, are fermented spontaneously with the vineyard's own yeasts and acquire a degree of independence that is by no means taken for granted in Germany. Katrin Wind produces the finest Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Early Burgundy, as well as a fine Portuguese wine from old vines.

The star of the wind-wines is the Riesling Kalmit, a white wine that concentrates the whole essence of limestone soils and can be found on the wine lists of such renowned houses as the Berlin Cordobar.
