The Yalumba Winery is located near Barossa in the southeast of Australia. It was already founded in 1849 by the Hill Smith family. Today Yalumba belongs to Australia's top class wineries and is already managed in the 5th generation by Robert Hill Smith. It is therefore the oldest Australian winery still owned by the family. Robert Hill Smith has been passionate about the wine trade and production since his childhood. This is all the more true when you know the passion and love with which the entire family operates the winery. Since Robert was 19 years old, he has lived out this passion for first-class wines in the winery. In Yalumba's assortment, wine connoisseurs will find selected, Australian top wines that perfectly reflect the country and its people.

Barossa - home of the top wines

At the beginning of the Yalumba history, the estate owned about 120 hectares of vineyards, today there are no less than 500 hectares. Yalumba's Cabernet Sauvignon is the absolute leader: it is the most important grape variety with 80 hectares - followed by Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Merlot. The total area under vine is spread over different regions. There are numerous vineyards in Barossa - one of the most popular Australian wine regions - as well as in the Barossa Valley, where the red-brown soil is much more fertile than in other parts of the country. The other regional growing areas of the Yalumba Winery are located in Eden Valley, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully.

Overnight harvesting

Harvesting at night is a decisive factor for the quality of the first-class wines, because the cooler temperatures can be used ideally for the harvest. The winemaker Hugh Reimers has no doubt that this night-time procedure is the key to the high quality of Yalumba's wine. The Yalumba Winery is now known far beyond the borders of Australia for its outstanding wines. With a red or white wine from Yalumba, you can literally taste the warm sun of the country with every single sip.
