Discovery in Argentina
Pascual Toso emigrated from Piedmont in Italy to Argentina in the 1880s. Coming from a family of winemakers, he discovered the potential of the region in Mendoza. In 1890 he founded his own winery. He acquired his current top location, Las Barrancas, at the beginning of the 20th century.
The Rio Mendoza, the lifeline
Las Barrancas is located in the Maipu district, near the Rio Mendoza. Situated on a highland at 750 metres above sea level, it covers 400 hectares of land that are part of the estate. The climate is hot and dry, which makes for very concentrated grapes. The main artery of the water supply is melt water from the Andes, which flows into the Rio Mendoza.
Felipe Stahlschmidt is today the winemaker who holds the reins at Pascual Toso and is responsible for the wines of the estate. The estate is also advised by the great winemaker Paul Hobbs, who gives the final touch to the Toso wines.
