More information about Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP - Cantine San Marzano
The Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduriader Cantine San Marzano is one of the great red wines of Apulia. A bold red from Italy. The Sessantanni Primitivo is vinified from grapes of over 60-year-old vines. It delights with opulent fruit and wonderfully spicy nuances. Cinnamon, cedar wood, and vanilla emerge. The Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria from the winery Cantine San Marzano is an unforgettably intense red wine from Italy. It impresses with a full body. Deep red in the glass, this red wine impresses with a rich bouquet. Aromas of dried plums, cherry compote, light tobacco, a hint of anise, and ripe forest berries enchant. The Sessantanni is one of our most popular wines. It also convinces our customers with its good ratings.
Production of the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria
The grapes for this noble red wine come from 60-year-old vines. These roots are in barren, iron oxide-rich soils. This explains the name, as Sessantanni means "of sixty-year-olds". The result is, among other things, a very low yield. These gnarled old vines of the Primitivo variety produce only about 3000 kg of grapes per hectare per year. This naturally reduced yield also allows for particularly high quality and flavor of the individual grapes. The Scirocco, which blows in from North Africa, shapes the climate of Cantine San Marzano wines in southern Italy. It brings dry air, making it difficult for fungi, insects, and rot to infest the vines. This almost makes cultivation according to organic standards possible. About 80% of the must is kept on the skins for 18 days under temperature control. The remaining 20% of the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria for 25 days. This leads to optimal extraction for this wine. The yeasts belong to the winemaker himself. After the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP is racked off, it is aged in wood for 12 months. This consists of French and American oak. Then it goes into the bottle.Tasting the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria
The Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria from Cantine San Marzano is a pure varietal Primitivo. It appears in deep ruby red in the glass. In the nose, aromas of dried plums and cherry jam are evident. Moreover, hints of sweet spices like cloves, cinnamon, and vanilla. On the palate, the Sessantanni is well-structured. It tastes full and fleshy, with a great acidity. It has soft, yet characterful tannins. In the very long finish of this red wine, berry and fruit aromas re-emerge. Spicy and tobacco notes come into play as well.Food pairings for the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria
We recommend the Sessantanni as a solo entertainer. It leaves a lasting impression without distractions. However, this Primitivo wonderfully pairs with braised meat dishes made from beef, lamb, wild boar, or venison. As well as with fine, bitter chocolate. Enjoy this wine at a temperature of 18° C.Awards for the Sessantanni Primitivo
