More information about Fantini Edizione Cinque Autoctoni - Farnese

The Fantini 20 Ventesima from Farnese's Cinque Autoctoni is a special edition that is even more extreme than the classic. This cuvée reveals a deep, dark, almost opaque purple red in the glass. The nose reveals dense aromas of ripe dark blackberries, sour cherries, blackcurrants and other dark fruits such as plums. Hints of herbs, cinnamon, cocoa and licorice round off the bouquet. A mineral touch puts the icing on the cake for the 20 Diciottesima Edizione.

The 20 Ventesima Edizione Cinque Autoctoni impresses on the palate with its enormous density, present tannins and great structure. This red wine is characterized by an excellent balance between fullness and freshness. Lots of fruit and mineral notes on the long finish.

Vinification of the Fantini 20 Ventesima Edizione Cinque Autoctoni

Like the classic Edizione Cinque Autoctoni, this cuvée is made from the grape varieties Montepulciano, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. The grapes grow in the municipalities of Colonnella, Ortona, Sava and Manduria. The grapes are left to dry on the vine for a month before they are harvested. This is followed by fermentation and finally ageing in barriques for 18 months.

As the grapes for this top wine come from two different wine-growing regions, Italian wine law prohibits a vintage year. For this reason, the annual editions since the first wine, released in 1999, are simply numbered consecutively. This means that most of the grapes for Edizione 18 (Diciottesimoa) were harvested in 2016.

Dining recommendation for the 20 Ventesima Edizione

Enjoy this expressive red wine with braised beef, spare ribs or pulled pork.
