More information about Chianti Toscana DOCG - Poggiotondo
The Chianti DOCG from Poggiotondo in the Italian wine-growing region of Tuscany is an appealing, expressive and harmonious red wine cuvée made from the Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino grape varieties.
This wine presents itself in the glass in a deep garnet red color with ruby highlights. The nose is immediately taken in by a spicy, fruity bouquet of dried oregano and intense aromas of juicy cherries. The ripe cherry aromas also remain present on the palate and are perfectly underlined by a wonderfully grainy tannin structure. The fresh, lively acidity accompanies the excellent and pleasantly long finish.
Vinification of Poggiotondo Chianti
The three grape varieties (Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorin) grow in the DOCG Chianti on soils rich in shell limestone.
Once the grapes arrive in the Poggiotondo wine cellar, they are de-stemmed and lightly crushed. The mash is then placed in concrete tanks for alcoholic fermentation. This red wine undergoes malolactic fermentation naturally. Once the fermentation process is complete, this red wine goes through a bladder press and is then matured in cement tanks and large oak barrels.
