Weingut Münzberg

Weingut Münzberg, which is run by the Keßler family, is enthroned on the mountain of the same name. The winery has been mentioned several times by well-known magazines such as Gault & Millau, falstaff and Eichelmann.

Wine as it comes from the mountain

Weingut Münzberg sees its wines as an expression of nature. Even though it is processed in the cellar, the winemaker's only task is to preserve the characteristics of the grape and to intervene as little as possible. Located in the winegrowing village of Godramstein not far from Landau, the vineyards are set amidst hills and orchards on the Münzberg ("Coin mountain"), which was given its name by the discovery of Roman coins. The Keßler family has been looking after the vineyards for 3 generations. The grandfather Jakob acquired a plot of land on the Münzberg at the end of the 19th century and his grandson Lothar is now responsible for the estate, whose headquarters were moved to the Münzberg in 1974.

Weingut Münzberg produces some high quality wines from their Große Lage ("great site"), whose name the winery bears. Besides Riesling, white Burgundy, Pinot Gris, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay are cultivated. The red varieties are represented by Dornfelder and Pinot Noir. The portfolio now includes rosé, sparkling wine, champagne and various brandies in addition to white and red wines.

Little influence

In accordance with their philosophy, the Keßlers also understand their cellar technology only as an extension of nature. Accordingly, the white wines are exclusively matured in temperature-controlled steel tanks to preserve their freshness and liveliness. Red wines are matured in wooden barrels, for the wines with which it harmonises, the maturing process is transferred to barrique. In contrast to the typical French barrels, the barriques at Weingut Münzberg are made of Palatinate oak.
