More information about One Point Five - Shafer Vineyards
The One Point Five from Shafer Vineyards is an excellent red wine cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon (95%), Merlot (3%), Petit Verdot (1%) and Malbec (1%).
Translated, One Point Five means "one and a half" and represents the symbol of the generations of Shafer Vineyards. For father John Shafer and son Doug Shafer bisitzen a cordial and very good relationship, which is expressed by the one and a half generations red wine (Shafers One Point Five).
In a dark ruby red, this Californian wine appears in the glass. This red wine smells seductively of fully ripe dark red berries, sweet floral hints and herbal spicy components. On the palate, the initial impressions are complemented by elegant notes of Virginia tobacco, cedar, sage leaves and fresh Malabar pepper. The tannin is ripe and, together with the acidity, perfectly integrated into the silky texture. This interplay leads into a long lingering finish.
Vinification of the Shafer One Point Five
From the Stags Leap District from two sites (Estate Vineyard and Borderline Vineyard) comes the majority of grapes for this red wine. A smaller portion grows in the Ridgeback Vineyard.
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. The grapes are immediately brought to the winery where they are strictly selected. Fermentation for this red wine takes place in stainless steel tanks. Finally, this wine rounds out for a total of 20 months in French barriques.
