More information about Blaufränkisch Leithaberg - Esterházy
Esterházy's Blaufränkisch Leithaberg from the Austrian DAC Leithaberg wine region in Burgenland is a varietally pure, complex and animating red wine.
In the glass, this wine shimmers a dark ruby red with cherry red highlights. The nose delights in a fruity bouquet that reveals aromas of ripe cranberries, stewed sour cherries and spicy hints of juniper and white pepper - accented by subtle toasted nuances. On the palate, this Austrian red wine presents at the same time a racy, animating acidity. The unforgettable structure is perfectly underlined by the fine-grained tannin and chalky minerality. Despite the richness and power, this wine remains wonderfully refined and exceptionally elegant.
Vinification of the Esterházy Leithaberg Blaufränkisch
In the DAC Leithaberg site (St. Georgen and Grosshöflein), the Blaufränkisch grapes grow on brown soil with a high lime content. The vines have an age of 30 years.
By means of selective hand harvesting, the grapes are picked and immediately brought to the Esterhazy wine cellar. There, the grapes are fermented for 18 days using the maceration method. This is followed by 16 months of aging in barriques and large wooden barrels (volume 5500 liters).
Food recommendation for the Leithaberg Esterházy Blaufränkisch
This dry red wine from Austria is an excellent companion to beef roulades with dumplings and blue cabbage, hearty goulash stews or even selected sausage and cheese specialties.
