Falstaff ratings

Falstaff does not rate wine alone, but also wine bars, restaurants and winemakers. Each category has its own system. 

• Wine bars are rated with 1 to 4 wine glasses
• Bars are rated with 1 to 4 glasses
• Restaurants are rated from 1 to 4 forks
• Winemakers are rated with 1 to 5 stars

What do Falstaff points mean?

For wine, Falstaff uses a point system based on the Parker system. Wines can be awarded a maximum of 100 points. 

• 100 to 95 Falstaff points are awarded to top wines
• 94 to 90 points are awarded to excellent wines
• 89 to 85 points Falstaff awards for very good wines
• 84 to 80 Falstaff points are awarded for good wines
• 79 to 75 points are awarded to wines that are okay for Falstaff

So if you discover wines with a Falstaff rating, you can be sure of high quality. Even wines under 80 points are quite wonderful wines. Especially when it comes to wines from Austria, the wine guide is an indispensable source to find the best products. A downer here is that winemakers and wineries pay a fee to be tasted by the experts. But the potential reputation often makes up for this investment.
