More information about Old Vine Zin Lodi Zinfandel - Gnarly Head

Gnarly Head's Old Vine Zinfandel is a rich, varietally pure and balanced red wine from the North American wine region of Lodi, California.

In the glass, this wine shimmers a deep dark ruby red with purple highlights. This red wine seems to have soaked up the sun and reveals notes of dark berries (blackberries, black currants), plums and spices (vanilla, black pepper). A light touch of toasted oak, mocha and chocolate round out this California red wine. On the palate, its great substance is felt, supported by a delicate tannic structure. The velvety, attractive texture impresses and accompanies into the pleasantly long finish.

Vinification of the Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel

The Zinfandel grapes for this red wine grow in Lodi, California on gnarled, 35-80 year old, head trained vines.

Hand-picked during the cool nights, the grapes are immediately brought to the Gnarly Head winery. There, the grapes are first destemmed and gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place for 7 to 9 days in stainless steel tanks. Finally, this red wine is put into French and American oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging.

Food recommendation for the Old Vine Zinfandel from Gnarly Head

Enjoy this dry red wine from California with chili con carne, pork ribs, chicken enchiladas and steak fajita.
